“There were some books from Taiwan and Hong Kong, but not a lot…there were really very few books in circulation. We didn’t have any real understanding of contemporary art. We just looked at the pictures and imagined all the different possibilities before going out and creating our own work. In this situation, plagiarizing was very rare—there simply wasn’t a lot to copy. It was much more creative back then.”
