The success of this archive will depend on the extent of its usage. Therefore, we urge everyone — students, professional colleagues, enthusiasts and friends — to explore this website, visit our physical library in Hong Kong, and augment this resource with ideas, suggestions, new information and material. We are delighted to assist you in any way we can, and thank you very much in advance for your interest and guidance.

Most important, of course, are the artists, critics, curators and scholars who have supported this project with their contributions of valuable personal material, precious time, generous advice and suggestions. Especially noteworthy are the 75 interviewees whose names are listed on this site in the section dedicated to Interviews. Without their enthusiastic participation, this project could never have achieved its goals. These interviewees include some of China’s most important scholars, artists, critics and writers, of whom several contributed major collections of rare and important documentary material. These donors are Wu Shanzhuan, Mao Xuhui, Lu Peng, Zhang Xiaogang, Wang Du, Zheng Shengtian, Fei Dawei, Wang Youshen, and Oscar Ho Hingkay. For the trust these individuals have placed in AAA and our mission, we offer our deepest appreciation. Critical also has been the tireless effort of my AAA colleagues, Claire Hsu and Phoebe Wong who have ably managed the extended and energetic project team and provided invaluable direction over the multifaceted parts of the website design and production. In particular, I would like to highlight the efforts of Anthony Yung who not only coordinated the project from beginning to end, but whose research, energy and insights have imbued the material, especially the interviews, with much of their depth and scope. For Anthony’s persistence, hard work and unceasing geniality, we are deeply grateful. Our colleagues at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in particular Jay Levenson and Gwen Farrelly, also deserve special thanks for their help in organizing the launch of this project in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and New York. Finally, we want to express our sincerest thanks to our sponsors — The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation, The W. L. S. Spencer Foundation, Ilyas and Mara Khan, and the Foundation for Arts Initiative. For their unswerving belief in AAA’s mission and their invaluable support for this particular project, we will be forever indebted.
