“Actually, from childhood up through college graduation, our generation of artists had a deep bond with painting. Our first understanding of art was just painting. We didn’t have today’s breadth of or openness towards materials and information. So to us, we feel a certain familiarity with painting. Although we dabbled in performance art and installations, and got involved in some big events, ultimately we still feel closest to painting. So when things calmed down, we started to think about painting again. I’ve always thought that the most important thing is truthfulness, a person’s true feelings. It doesn’t matter what kind of medium you use to execute your work, the most important thing is expressing a kind of truthfulness.”
